①instead of是介词，但却是连词的用法，因为它连接两个并列的成分。
We just had soup instead of a full meal.我们没有吃全餐，只喝了汤。
We shall have tea in the garden instead of in the house. 我们将在花园里用茶， 而不在室内用。

1、当 instead of 连接的动词与前面是完全同等的成分时，则根据前面的动词形式确定：
He wishes ；to ；go ；instead of ；stay ；at home.他希望去而不留在家里。（同为并列不定式）
That ；increased ；instead of ；decreased ；our courage. 那不但没有减弱反而增强了我们的勇气。（并列谓语，后接同一个宾语时）
当 instead of 连接的动词与句子的谓语动词不是完全等同时，其后用动名词形式。
Let'；s ；play ；cards instead of ；watching ；television. 咱们玩纸牌吧，别看电视了。
